Public Theology and the Sacredness of Human Life

The Just Peacemaking Initiative and All Saints Church are pleased to announce a series of events on public theology and the sacredness of human life this spring featuring David P. Gushee, Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics and Director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University in Macon, GA. Christian ethicist, teacher, activist, and public intellectual, David has been an advocate on a number of controversial issues from an evangelical perspective, including torture and human rights, climate change, and most recently gun violence.

Throughout these days with David, several local scholars will come to engage with David on various levels. On April 18, Hak Joon Lee, Professor of Theology and Ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, will join a panel discussion. On April 19, Judith Mendelsohn Rood, Professor of History and Middle Eastern Studies at Biola University in La Mirada, CA, will join in conversation. And on April 20, Glen H. Stassen, Lewis B. Smedes Professor of Christian Ethics and Executive Director of the Just Peacemaking Initiative at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, will offer the first response to David’s lecture.
