Calling all
composers and musicians: The Fred Bock Institute of Music at Fuller has
announced its first choral music and worship song competition.
Composers of all
ages, styles, and training are encouraged to write an original,
premiere-performance choral work or congregational song based on the topic “Talk
of God, Talk of Science,” the theme for an upcoming conference by the
Ogilvie Institute of Preaching.
The winning
songs will be performed at the conference. They will also be considered for
publication by the Brehm Center’s Jubal House series, and winners may win cash
prizes--$1,500 for the choral composition and $300 for the congregational song.
The competition
is part of the New Music Initiative, the Brehm Center’s latest enterprise in
the world of worship, art, and culture. This initiative seeks to create new
works through commissions, composition contests, and the Brehm Center’s own
Jubal House publication series.
The Brehm Center
hopes to engage the intersection between worship and art and expand the
repertoire of church and worship music to new composers.
