Second Annual Festival of Worship to Unite 1,200 Southern California Voices

Festival of Worship at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to take place February 10th :: 01/03/13

Fuller Seminary, in partnership with the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, will present its second annual ecumenical Festival of Worship at the Cathedral located in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 7:00 p.m.

Thirty-seven choirs from faith communities and traditions across the Los Angeles area—Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Catholic, Mormon, and others—will be united in music ranging from an African song to music from Protestant and Catholic traditions.

“The Festival of Worship is a unique gathering of people from diverse traditions to worship in one of the most beautiful sacred spaces that can be found anywhere in the world. It is an unparalleled experience to hear brass, percussion, and organ blending together with children and adult voices, all focused on worshipping God,” said Ed Willmington, Director of the Brehm Center’s Fred Bock Institute of Music at Fuller Seminary, who is organizing the event.

Acclaimed composer and conductor Craig Courtney is the guest conductor for the festival. In addition to conducting three of his well-known compositions, Mr. Courtney will also conduct the premiere performance of a new anthem commissioned for the festival. Special guest Jessica Rivera, a Grammy Award-winning soprano, will also be singing with the mass choir in the service.

Preceding the festival at 4:00 p.m., there will be a Gala Dinner in the Cathedral Ballroom with proceeds going to support the Fred Bock Institute of Music. The cost for dinner is $100. Dinner guests will have reserved seats for the festival service and will also have the opportunity to take a tour of the Cathedral after the dinner to view the artwork on the grounds and in the Cathedral.  Docents will inform guests about architectural features, the art, sculptures, antiques, and windows. Festival admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. To purchase tickets or for more information, see www.FestivalofWorship.com or call 626-304-3789.
