Pasadena's civic, business, and faith communities joined together for the 41st annual Pasadena Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. The theme of the breakfast meeting, held at the Pasadena Convention Center, was "A Place to Call Home."
In welcoming remarks, Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard invited the audience of nearly 600 people to join together in "respect and care for one another" and to offer prayers for the City and all of its residents including both the "homeless and housed."
Keynote speaker was Elise Buik, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Los Angeles, who spoke of efforts throughout the area to help individuals out of poverty through affordable housing. She praised a local Pasadena effort called "Project Housed," which works with the City of Pasadena to help chronically homeless-- those who have lived on the streets for more than one year and are most at-risk of serious health problems.
