Fuller Staff Writer on Jesus, the Parables, and Using Bad Science

Christianity Today Logo

Fuller staff member and alumnus Reed Metcalf (MDiv ’14) was recently published in The Behemoth, an imprint of Christianity Today. Part of the FULLER magazine team and editor of the Fuller Blog on Patheos, Metcalf is also a cofounder of the seminary’s Faith and Science Student Group.

Metcalf’s article focused on Jesus’ use of incorrect understandings of the natural world in his parables. Metcalf suggests that Jesus did not “get it wrong,” but instead “met humanity where we were in cognitive development and scientific understanding.” This shows God using but not validating poor understandings of how the world works in order to convey his love to us.
