Dean of the School of Intercultural Studies Scott Sunquist has been awarded the Book Award for Excellence in Missiology for 2015 from the American Society of Missiology (ASM), a national professional association for mission studies. His book, The Unexpected Christian Century: The Reversal and Transformation of Global Christianity, 1900–2000 (Baker Academic, 2015), traces the unexpected shift of Christianity’s center to Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Pacific, and the implications of this shift for missiological practices in the Western church.
The book, states the ASM award, has been recognized “for its significant contribution and is noted for how it will affect how mission studies are examined, understood, and interpreted.”
"I am honored and humbled to receive this award from the American Society of Missiology,” Dr . Sunquist says. “I am thankful to be in a community of such wonderful servants of God, and it is my hope that this volume will help to provide the context for our ongoing scholarship and innovation in service of God’s mission.”
Having recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the school, we join Dr. Sunquist and the School of Intercultural Studies in their continued achievement and look forward to more innovative scholarship in the future.
