The Research Processes Administrator is integral to the ethical practice of research involving human subjects conducted by faculty and students in the Schools of Psychology (SOP), Intercultural Studies (SIS), and Theology (SOT). This position manages the process of Human Subject Review across the seminary. Also manages the continuing education program of SOP, maintaining SOP’s status as an approved continuing ed provider with the American Psychological Association and California Board of Behavioral Science.

Essential Functions

Human Subjects Review Committee (HSRC) Responsibilities

  • Screening, exemptions and expedited review, supervision of the complete review process of incoming research proposals across all HSR committees at Fuller (currently one in SOP and one joint committee for SIS and SOT)
  • Training of board members, faculty and student investigators in one-to-one and group settings. Communication and guidance on issues related to human subjects requirements and ethical standards
  • Policy and procedure development and updating, liaison with Fuller’s legal department, maintaining institutional compliance with federal and state laws, maintaining the HSRC federal-wide assurance active and acting when reporting is necessary, execution of cooperative agreements with other IRBs, etc.
  • Develop, update and implement online application system for the HSRC proposals, liaison with IRBNet, and maintenance of the online library of relevant documentation. Working with IRB Submission Coordinator on maintaining the HSRC database
  • Active professional development, participation to annual IRB conference and other relevant events
  • Advise students and faculty on appropriate ethical and legal HSR standards
  • Non-voting member of all HSRC’s (IRB), supervision of IRB Submission Coordinator

Continuing Education (CE) Program Administration

  • Development of the CE Sponsorship renewal reports (every 5 years) and the yearly status reports to the American Psychological Association (APA)
  • APA policies and procedures updates, responsibility for implementation of APA and BBS standards and requirements
  • Review of CE applications, monitoring of program implementation, and overall responsibility for the execution of the program (including application development for new forms of CE delivery: online classes, for example)
  • Overseeing the posting of CE programs on different media (including APA website), working with staff to maintain the Fuller CE database and serve in the SOP Alumni Committee as CE consultant
  • Maintain records, issue CE certificates, and evaluate SOP-sponsored programs

Other Functions

  • Website and social media content development and oversight as related to HSR and CE
  • Inventory of research software licenses distribution (SPSS, NVivo, etc.) and maintenance of annual software renewals
  • Preparing HR paperwork, supervision of staff and HSRC TA
  • Support School of Psychology and the seminary events as needed


  • Master’s degree
  • 1-2 years demonstrated research experience
  • Familiarity with a range of research methods (quantitative and qualitative, lab-based and field-based); training and experience in one research methodology is preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Computer competency in word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications required; some experience with preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • High degree of administrative dependability and initiative
  • Previous experience working on review boards preferred
  • Experience working across academic departments and disciplines highly preferred
