Exploring the relationship between ideas learned in the classroom and practical ministry is central to the formational learning process within our Masters and Certificate programs. As a student, you will not only glean from contemporary dialogues occurring in the field of intercultural studies, but we invite you to contribute your personal and diverse experiences to the ongoing conversations. Through regular interaction with fellow classmates, knowledgeable faculty, and academic study, you will find your experience of graduate, intercultural study to be challenging and enriching.
Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies
The Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies (MAICS) is a two year program for mid-career missionaries and international church and mission leaders. This degree exposes students to new possibilities for missiological praxis so that they meet the challenge of contextualizing the gospel in an increasingly global community. In addition, it enables practitioners to pursue coursework in one area of missiological study, culminating in a reflective and research-based writing project.
Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies and Master of Theology in Missiology (Korean Studies)
The School of Intercultural Studies' Korean Studies' Program provides three degrees taught in Korean language: Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies, Master of Theology in Missiology and Doctor of Ministry in Global Ministry. There are approximately 250 active students in the degree programs. Students come from 34 countries around the world, speaking 32 languages. Our students are comprised of missionaries, mission organization leaders, local church pastors, lay leaders in mission, and professional tent-makers.
Doctor of Philosophy in Intercultural Studies
The Doctor of Philosophy in Intercultural Studies (PhD ICS) degree, offered through Fuller's Center for Missiological Research (CMR), represents the highest academic credential in the study of global Christian mission at one of the most well-known and respected missiological training institutions in the world. It is designed to provide exceptional candidates the opportunity to design, develop and complete a customized research plan in consultation with faculty advisors through a customizable tutorial-driven process that integrates a wide range of missiological disciplines.
Master of Theology in Intercultural Studies
The Master of Theology in Intercultural Studies (ThM ICS) degree equips pastors, mission and denominational leaders to meet the challenge of ministering in an increasingly complex, multiethnic, multinational world. The ThM in Intercultural Studies provides students who have already earned the Master of Divinity degree (or its educational equivalent) the missiological framework for research and reflection by building on the biblical, theological, and historical studies gained through their previous work. The program enables practitioners to pursue concentrated coursework in one area of missiological study, culminating in a reflective and research-based thesis.
Global Research Institute
The Global Research Institute provides a fellowship that allows recipients to take a two academic quarter sabbatical (about 6 months) to Fuller Theological Seminar's Pasadena campus to research and write materials to further the intellectual and spiritual mission of the church in the scholar's particular region.
