Career Summary
Dr. Clifford L. Penner was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, and was raised in Abbotsford, British Columbia. In 1964, after three years at Grace Bible Institute (now Grace University) in Omaha, Nebraska, Cliff completed his undergraduate work and received a BA in Psychology at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was in the first class to enter Fuller’s new School of Psychology, where he received his MA in Theology and PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1971. That same year he became the first associate of Associated Psychological Services with Dr. Neil Clark Warren and remained a partner of that group until 1995. In 1976, he and his wife, Joyce, began specializing in sexual therapy. Together they have authored ten books on sexuality. They have taught seminars and lectured extensively throughout North and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. In recent years they have focused particularly on training pastors and mental health professionals. Their best known books include The Gift of Sex (revised 2003), Restoring the Pleasure, and The Way to Love Your Wife.
