Career Summary
Jody A. De Pree Vanderwel was born and raised in West Michigan and graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in philosophy and German literature. Vanderwel attended the University of Montana School of Business for one year and earned a JD degree from Washington University School of Law, St. Louis, Missouri. After clerking for the New Hampshire Superior Court, Vanderwel entered the private practice of law on a full-time basis for two years and on a part-time basis until 1985. During that time she also taught in the paralegal program at the University of New Hampshire. From 1986 to 2002 she was affiliated with Herman Miller, Inc., as corporate counsel for 13 years and as vice president of corporate giving for three years. For two years she served as stewardship program manager at Calvin College. Since 2005 she has been president of Grand Angels, an angel investment group in West Michigan investing in early stage businesses.
