Description

The Travis Research Institute (TRI) at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in a recently-initiated project to encourage the development of the field of cultural psychology of religion in China. This position is expected to last for one year, beginning July 1, 2015, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year.

Essential Functions

Under the supervision of Dr. Alvin Dueck (Principal Investigator on the project and Distinguished Professor of Cultural Psychologies in the School of Psychology), the research fellow will:

  • Research and articulate theoretical issues
  • Assist with methodological issues and instrumentation
  • Encourage empirical research in the field of cultural psychology and religion
  • Collaborate with researchers in a Request For Proposal program that creates opportunities for scholars to address special topics in the field
  • Support doctoral students from interdisciplinary or dual-degree programs in psychology, religion and culture or related areas
  • Assist researcher with aspects of the projects as needed
  • There is also a requirement for travel to China and within the United States for project-related conferences and research activities

Requirements

  • Must have advanced degree that crosses the disciplines of psychology and religion
  • Expertise in cultural psychology and psychology of religion with both experimental and qualitative research experience
  • Have single or first-authored publications that demonstrate facility with scholarship using methods and perspectives across disciplines
  • Fluency in Mandarin and lived experience in China and Western culture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in working with teams of scholars
  • All requirements for the Ph.D. degree must be completed by the date of hire
