Biographical Information:

Desiree Segura-April joined the Fuller faculty in 2007 as assistant professor of children at risk in the School of Intercultural Studies, after serving as adjunct assistant professor. She previously lived in San Jose, Costa Rica, where she was adjunct professor in the Center for Cross-Cultural Ministries at ESEPA Universidad Cristiana Internacional, and an affiliate professor on Asbury Theological Seminary’s virtual campus.

Segura-April published two chapters in the recent book Shaping the Future: Girls and Our Destiny (2008) and has presented papers and lectures on the girl-child in Latin America. Her current research focuses on case studies of churches in Latin America who are ministering with children at risk as well as research into ministry with the girl child around the world. Both are a part of research grants from the Fuller Youth Institute.

She represents Fuller on the Global Alliance for Training Programs in Holistic Child Development and the Global Children’s Forum, both collaborative groups working towards equipping and mobilizing people to share the gospel with children holistically. Segura-April also has nine years of pastoral experience involving program development for ministries to children, in addition to extensive experience in organizing short-term mission trips. In addition to the courses listed below, she teaches children at risk conference courses. Further children at risk courses are under development. She is also the faculty advisor for the Children at Risk Student Group.
