Biographical Information:
Jack Balswick has been active on the faculty since 1982 as professor of sociology and family development in the School of Psychology, prior to which he taught at the University of Georgia and Wisconsin State University.
Balswick’s research in marriage and family issues and religious mental health has resulted in more than 70 articles and monographs, as well as a long roster of books, the most recent of which are Authentic Human Sexuality (2nd edition, 2008), The Family: A Christian Perspective on the Contemporary Home (3rd edition, 2007), A Model for Marriage: Covenant, Grace, Empowerment, and Intimacy (2006), The Reciprocating Self: Human Development in Theological Perspective (2005), and Relationship-Empowerment Parenting (2003). He co-authored many of these books with his wife, Judith Balswick. Balswick is actively involved in the American Sociological Association, and National Council on Family Relations. He has also served as an associate editor of the Journal of Marriage and The Family, Family Relations, and Journal of Family Issues, and twice as a Fulbright Senior Scholar abroad in Cyprus and Korea.
Balswick teaches courses in Gender and Sexuality, Child and Family Development, Life Span Development, and Cultural and Ethnic Issues in Marital and Family Therapy.
