Alan Weaver– Affiliate Professor of Leadership

Dr. Alan Weaver has two major passions:  1) the growing numbers of pastors in non-western countries who have no opportunity for either training or support, and 2) the need for pastors to understand and release the power of God’s people whom they shepherd.  For nearly 30 years Alan has ministered to pastors around the world to both provide the training and support that they need as well as encourage them to do the same for their own church leaders.

Alan is a seasoned and still active practitioner, serving with Entrust ( as the vice-president in charge of expansion and curriculum.
Having completed his Ph.D. with Dr. Sherwood Lingenfelter in cross-cultural leadership, Alan has been serving with the DMiss program since 2007 and is an integral part of the DMiss teaching team.

After earning my BA in psychology at the University of California, I joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1977.  In 1984, I completed my MDiv at the International School of Theology in San Bernardino, CA.  In 2004 I had the privilege of completing a Ph.D. with Dr. Sherwood Lingenfelter in cross-cultural leadership at Fuller’s School of Intercultural Studies.

In 1984, knowing that I wanted to work with pastors, I accepted an assignment from Campus Crusade to assist in the joint mission project of Biblical Education by Extension (BEE) to train pastors behind the iron curtain. I moved to Hungary in 1985 and lived in Budapest until 1999. While director for BEE in Hungary, I helped to open a new Hungarian Baptist mission school, and taught Walk through the Bible seminars in Hungarian.

Involvement with Fuller

While studying at Fuller, I had the opportunity to be the TA for the research design class and discovered a new joy, coaching doctoral students in their program design and field research. In 2007, then, I began to teach the Doctor of Missiology module on research methods.

Current Ministry

I continue following my passion to provide training to pastors and church leaders around the world who don’t normally have such opportunity. In this endeavor, I have rejoined BEE, now known as Entrust ( and currently serve as the vice-president in charge of expansion and curriculum. Though I travel a lot to places like India and Africa, I enjoy living in Colorado Springs with its great access to mountain views and hiking and bicycling.

My passion

I get excited when I hear of how fast the church is growing around the world.  But at the same time I am keenly aware of the millions of young pastors in these places of rapid growth where the pastors have little opportunity for training or support. For nearly 30 years I have sought to be a Barnabas to pastors so that they may receive the training they need and learn to empower their own people for ministry.
