Biographical Information

Prior to joining the faculty of Fuller’s Graduate School of Psychology in 2012, Dr. Strawn was Professor of Psychology at Point Loma Nazarene University and also practiced as a clinical psychologist and served as Vice President for Spiritual Development and Dean of the Chapel at Southern Nazarene University.

Strawn recently published, with E. Bland, Christianity and Psychoanalysis: A New Conversation (InterVarsity Press, 2014); with W. S. Brown, The Physical Nature of Christian Life: Neuroscience, Psychology, and the Church (Cambridge University Press, 2012); and edited, with R. W. Wright, the 2014 special issue of the Journal of Psychology and Theology “Traditioning Integration.” Among his numerous articles in journals, collections, and dictionaries, recent ones include, with W. S. Brown, “Self organizing personhood: Complex emergent dynamic linguistic relational neurophysiologicalism” (2015); with R. W. Wright, “Tradition-based integration: Illuminating the stories and practices that shape our integrative imaginations” (2014); and, with W. S. Brown, “Liturgical animals: What psychology and neuroscience tell us about formation and worship” (2013).

Strawn is a member of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies; Society for the Study of Psychology and Wesleyan Studies (founding member and officer); Society for the Exploration of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapies and Theology (founding member and associate director); and the Brookhaven Institute for Psychoanalysis and Christian Theology (faculty member).

He is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene.
