De Pree Emphasis in Leadership

The De Pree Emphasis in Leadership embodies the conviction of Max De Pree that "belief precedes behavior." In this emphasis MA and MDiv students learn not only practices for leadership, but the values that inform those practices.

Curriculum Requirements

To earn the De Pree Emphasis in Leadership (20 units), students must pass courses in four of the five course areas and complete an internship.

Self-awareness, reflection, self-discipline, spiritual formation, and character development

Organizatonal behavior, authority, power, frames, mission/vision, change and conflict

GM522 Leadership in Context

Course Area 4: Organizational Dynamics

Culture, systems theory, teams, organizational life cycle, emotional intelligence

ML565 Organic Organizations and Churches

Course Area 5: Topics in Advanced Leadership

Cross-cultural leadership, cross-cultural dynamics of global leadership, leadership and youth ministry, missional church and leadership

Internship Requirement

Students must complete an internship that includes participation in a Theological Reflection Group or a practicum in the School of Intercultural Studies.
