MA in Theology (MAT)
The MA in Theology degree is a two-year graduate theological program covering a wide range of general and specialized subjects.
This degree prepares students for leadership in a wide range of vocations by cultivating skills in the study and interpretation of Scripture. It enables students to fashion a systematic theological framework and to develop an understanding of the origin and growth of the Christian tradition in all its richness and diversity.
96 Quarter Units:
The MAT degree can be completed in two years. However, many students pursue the program on a part-time basis and thereby extend their study over a longer period of time. In addition to the ten-week daytime schedule, campus courses are also offered in the evenings and as intensives, allowing for even more flexibility.
Students in this program desire to be well prepared biblically and theologically in a very flexible program to serve more effectively in the church or the marketplace.
The MAT can serve as an academic prerequisite for doctoral studies (DMin or PhD). If you are interested in PhD studies, you are strongly encouraged to do the Biblical Languages emphasis, which will provide you with the necessary background in the biblical languages, a knowledge required for entrance into most PhD in Theology programs. Please consult the requirements for your desired doctoral program to ensure this degree meets the academic prerequisites for admission.
The MAT degree can be earned in Pasadena, as well as at regional campuses, including Colorado Springs, Houston, Irvine, Menlo Park, Phoenix, Sacramento, and Seattle. Partial coursework can be done at any Fuller campus or via Distributed Learning.
The degree prepares students for work in the church, parachurch, or the marketplace.
Students may take up to 48 units through Distributed Learning.
