A new book release, The Jewish Approach to Repairing the World (Tikkun Olam): A Brief Introduction for Christians, by Rabbi Elliot N. Dorff with coauthor and Fuller alumnus Cory Willson, offers a discussion for Christians of ethical tenets of Judaism. By addressing the Jewish tradition of "tikkun olam"—a series of mandates that shape Jewish social and family relationships—the book seeks to enhance Jewish-Christian understanding and explore interfaith commonalities.
The book was dedicated to Fuller President Richard J. Mouw for his commitment to Jewish-Christian dialogue, and offers strong praise for him in its acknowledgements section. Dr. Mouw has worked closely in the area of interfaith dialogue with Rabbi Dorff, who is professor of philosophy at the American Jewish University.
Writes Dorff: "We [have] bonded around our common recognition that interfaith discussions are not only critically important in this multifaith world of ours but also always illuminate a person’s own faith and make issues more tractable. . . . A prolific and insightful writer, Richard has brought his keen mind, his philosophical acumen, his religious convictions, and his immense and broad learning to the analysis of many contemporary issues, always making them much clearer than they were before he wrote about them."
Mouw and Dorff together have encouraged various forms of Jewish-Christian dialogue in Southern California in recent years, with a focus on fostering better relations between evangelical Protestants and the Jewish community.
