PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology
Recognizing that faith plays an integral part in a person’s
psychological health, Briana Van Scoy knew Fuller Theological Seminary was the
best equipped school to help her learn to integrate the two. Since beginning her degree, Briana has loved
the opportunity to take both theology and psychology classes simultaneously,
engaging in constant dialogue about how the two disciplines can interact in
therapy. Fuller professors have helped
her think critically about how one field impacts the other and vice versa, offering
Briana a rich opportunity to grow as a future therapist in ways other graduate
programs are not able to afford.
After finishing her degree, Briana hopes to work on a
college or university campus, providing counseling support to students. She says “I’ve seen first hand the good that
therapy can do in the lives of my own clients…and I want to use my skills as a
therapist to assist students in overcoming their obstacles so they may succeed
at pursuing their goals.” She strongly
believes that psychologists will be more effective in providing healing to
clients if they continue to enrich their understanding of the field and stay up
with current research. Some day, Briana
would like to be involved in further research to help practicing therapists grow
in deeper understanding of the field. Briana
also has goals of becoming a professor of psychology, helping train a future
generation of psychologists using the solid foundation she is gaining here at
Fuller.
“I know I am receiving a solid education here at Fuller that
will prepare me for what I feel God has called me to do,” Briana states, “And
the support I have received from family and friends like you has enabled me to
thrive. Thank you for your financial
support!”
