SUMMARY:Payton Lectures 2022
DESCRIPTION:Embodied Theological Education in a (Dis)Embodied Age\nMay 12–13\, 2022\nWhat is the future of theological education in a digital age? What\, more specifically\, does the physical body gain or lose in a future marked by a preponderance of online classes? And if we assume that the future of theological education is more\, rather than less\, digital\, how might we anticipate such a future not with naïveté or fear but with sober-minded wisdom? \nThe 2022 Payton Lectures\, hosted by Fuller’s School of Mission and Theology\, aim to address these very questions. Nine scholars will explore the conference theme from the perspective of their respective field of study—including psychology\, ethics\, missiology\, homiletics\, pastoral theology\, biblical\, intercultural\, and Chicana/o studies—and will share a draft of their paper with conference participants in advance of the gathering. Different from previous iterations of the Payton Lectures\, the aim of this year’s conference is to create a pedagogically rich environment for both presenters and participants\, which\, in turn\, might invigorate the teaching practices of seminary and divinity school faculty and form students in holistic ways for service in the concrete contexts of their lives—including their digitally mediated lives. \nThis event is free and open to the public; registration is required. The event will be held virtually and in-person on Fuller’s campus\, however\, please note that in-person attendance is limited. Visit the website to learn more. \n*Live translation is no longer being offered at this event.

SUMMARY:Missiology Lectures 2022
DESCRIPTION:Power\, Agency\, and Women in the Mission of God: A Scholar-Practitioner Conversation\nOctober 26–28\, 2022\nThe 2022 Missiology Lectures—a completely virtual event—will facilitate a global conversation between scholars\, practitioners\, and scholar-practitioners from a variety of social and cultural locations to explore the topic “Power\, Agency\, and Women in the Mission of God.”   \nThe role\, status\, and experience of women in the church and in the world represent a fundamental missiological issue of our day. These lectures center the conversation on naming the resources women bring to addressing personal\, organizational\, and social structure\, as well as spiritual powers. The conference theme will be explored by scholars and practitioners from a variety of disciplines including missiology\, theology\, psychology\, marriage and family therapy\, sociology\, history\, and biblical studies.  \nThrough lectures\, panel discussions\, and breakout groups\, conference participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the ways women may dismantle barriers and enact their personal and collective agency to engage social\, cultural\, organizational\, and spiritual power for the sake of the outworking of God’s shalom in their communities and contexts. These virtual lectures\, with a node in Ghana\, will equip the church to faithfully respond to God’s invitation to women to participate in God’s work in the world. \nSpanish and Korean translation is available. Visit fuller.edu/missiology to view the schedule and learn more about our presenters.

SUMMARY:2023 MLKJ Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Jesus and the Disinherited: The Framework for the Dream\nJanuary 18–20\, 2023\nPlease join the William E. Pannell Center for Black Church Studies for our 2023 celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. \nThe theme for this year’s 2023 MLKJ Celebration is taken from Howard Thurman’s phenomenal work\, Jesus and the Disinherited. Thurman teaches us what it means to find our voice in a world of oppression and be guided by an ethic of love. This book was known to be influential during Dr. King’s own journey throughout the Civil Rights Movement. The Pannell Center has dedicated three days to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King and our responsibility as a community to care for the marginalized and oppressed. \nThe MLKJ Celebration Worship Service will feature gospel recording artist DOE\, Black-owned food trucks\, and more! To learn more about program participants and view the event schedule\, visit fuller.edu/mlk.
