SUMMARY:The 7th Triennial Global Network for Public Theology Conference
DESCRIPTION:“Theologians find themselves in liminal spaces\, between the sacred texts and traditions of their religious communities and the broader public to which they are accountable. But what is the role of Scripture in public theology? What methodological considerations are important for reading\, embodying\, and practicing Scripture in public spaces? In what ways are we accountable to sacred texts? How have sacred texts been understood and represented in culture\, and what influence have they had? How should Scripture shape our public policy\, and in what ways should public needs shape the ways we read Scripture? \nPlenary speakers: \n\nMunther Isaac\, senior pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church\, Bethlehem and academic dean of Bethlehem Bible College\nJoel B. Green\, senior professor at Fuller Seminary\nElsa Tamez\, professor emerita at Universidad Biblica Latinamericana\, Costa Rica\nSafwat Marzouk\, associate professor of Old Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary\nElaine Goh Wei-Fun\, professor of Old Testament studies and dean of the Center of Postgraduate Studies\, Seminari Theoloji Malaysia\n\nThere will be 21 working groups with over 140 paper presenters\, along with various interest group meetings relating to contemporary public issues. Translations will be provided in Spanish\, Chinese\, and Korean for the plenary sessions. Registration is open to the public; tickets start at $50 and fee waivers will be considered upon request. \nFor more information about the conference\, please visit the GNPT Conference website.

SUMMARY:Missiology Lectures 2025
DESCRIPTION:Missiology Lectures 2025: Missiology in a New Generation\, with a Celebration of 60 Years of Missiology at Fuller\nOctober 15-17\, 2025\nThis year\, Fuller Seminary is commemorating 60 years of teaching and developing missiology as an academic discipline. Begun in 1965 under the auspices of the School of World Mission (SWM)\, and continued from 2003 in the renamed School of Intercultural Studies (SIS)\, missiology has been taught and researched within the School of Mission and Theology (SMT) since 2021. During these six decades\, the discipline of missiology has undergone various transformations and developments in dialogue with the church\, the world at large\, and generations of faculty and students. We have moved from a nearly exclusive focus on mission methods to a multidisciplinary approach that engages and integrates various social sciences with history and theology. We study both local and global expressions of mission by churches and agencies from a vast array of peoples and in diverse contexts throughout Christian history and today. \nOur 60th Missiology Lectures this October celebrate and assess missiology at Fuller by critically and appreciatively exploring “Missiology in a New Generation.” This is a working conference. We have asked four scholars who know Fuller to join us so that they can offer critical feedback and insights about what they see as the new horizons for missiology. These perspectives will then be discussed by and with our faculty\, students\, alumni\, and trustees\, as we discern what parts of the legacy of SWM/SIS will be most relevant to SMT in the coming years\, and which new topics\, approaches\, and disciplines hold promise for missiological inquiry in the next decades.
