SUMMARY:A Conversation with David Taylor on Prayers for the Pilgrimage (Fuller TX)
DESCRIPTION:Join Fuller Texas and David Taylor for a conversation about his book\, Prayers for the Pilgrimage: A Book of Collects for All of Life. \nOn Wednesday\, April 30\, 2025\, at 7:00 pm (CT) \, professor\, theologian\, and priest\, David Taylor will be on campus at Fuller Texas to celebrate his most recent book\, Prayers for the Pilgrimage: A Book of Collects for All of Life. His book includes a wide range of prayers: \nFor “Those Who Weary of Doing Justice”\nFor “A Mid-Life Crisis”\nFor “Those Who Struggle with Mental Health”\nFor “Janitors & Cleaners”\nFor “Going on Vacation”\nFor “Those Who Spiritually Wander”\nFor “Changing a Diaper in the Middle of the Night”\nFor “Grace Between Fellow Believers Across Political Lines”\nFor “Waking Up on the Wrong Side of the Bed.”\nThe conversation with will be hosted by Collin Cornell\, professor of Bible and Mission. The discussion will explore ways in which an ancient form of prayer\, the “Collect\,” offers a unique opportunity to shape our individual and communal lives before God in prayer. Much like the poetry of the psalms\, this form of written prayer involves a dense mix of language and imagery that\, at best\, enables us to say exactly what needs saying to God–and perhaps also what needs saying continually to God. \nThe first 25 registrants will receive a free copy of the book at the event! David Taylor will be available for book signings prior to the program. \nParking is free and adjacent to the Fuller Texas campus. Light refreshments will be provided.

SUMMARY:Fuller Texas Lecture Event: Christmas In America
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, Fuller Seminary Texas is hosting a lecture on Christmas in America: Why Putting Christ Back in Christmas is Not Enough. This will explore such questions as: \n\nWhat does it mean to celebrate Christmas in America? \nWhat does it look like to bear faithful witness at Christmas in our homes and churches? \nIn what ways do our celebrations lean more to the influence of Charles Dickens and Santa Claus drinking a Coca-Cola than to the birth narratives of Matthew and Luke? \nAnd why do we feel more exhausted and stressed than peaceful and nourished at Christmas?\n\nThis event is lead by Dr. David Taylor\, Director of Brehm Texas and Assistant Professor of Theology and Culture\, and will feature live performances of original Christmas hymns and songs. This event is free and open to the public. Online registration is required.
