On the Anniversary of the Eaton and Palisades Fires

Dear Fuller Community,

Today marks the anniversary of the devastating firestorms that ravaged the Altadena and Pacific Palisades communities. The deadly and damaging Eaton Fire was within view of Fuller’s Pasadena campus, and employees, students, alumni, and friends of the seminary experienced tremendous loss and dislocation in what became the second most destructive fire in California’s history.

We lament the tragedy that so many in our community and region have experienced, and we continue to pray for the presence and peace of the Holy Spirit for those who have been directly and indirectly impacted. At the same time, we praise God for the countless friends, both near and far, who extended hospitality and generosity to those affected. Further, we are grateful for Fuller employees who worked faithfully and effectively in response to this disaster in ways that will never be known to most.

While some have been able to find fresh opportunities and new beginnings, others remain on journeys of recovery from this unimaginable tragedy. We are confident that beyond our efforts to continue extending compassion and care on this long path ahead, the companionship of Christ offers help for all who continue with the heaviness of this burden.

With hope for how God works in all things,

David Emmanuel Goatley
Clifford L. Penner Presidential Chair
