Fuller Seminary Launches MA in Mental Health and Ministry

Fuller Seminary is thrilled to announce the launch of a Master of Arts in Mental Health and Ministry (MAMHM), a unique degree that will prepare ministry, non-profit, and lay leaders around the globe to support mental health and holistic well-being in their diverse communities.

Dr. Cynthia Eriksson, dean of the School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy, said,
“Based upon the numbers, all of the mental health needs in our communities cannot be met through only individual therapy. The new MAMHM prepares faith leaders and non-profit staff to provide science-based mental health support that encourages recovery from emotional and relational pain. Students will learn practical skills, consider their community’s unique needs, and create plans for life-changing programs.”

The fully online program reflects Fuller’s long-standing commitment to the integration of psychology and theology, offering deeply rooted spiritual formation alongside rigorous mental health training for Christian leaders anywhere in the world. Emphasizing trauma-informed pastoral care alongside cross-cultural engagement, the MAMHM prepares ministry and nonprofit leaders, educators, missionaries, and others to respond skillfully to mental health needs in non-clinical settings including churches, faith-based and humanitarian NGOs, prisons, rehabilitation centers, addiction recovery programs, and community services.

The MAMHM is a 48-quarter unit program, enabling students to graduate in approximately 1.5 years. Unlike other degrees offered by Fuller’s School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy, the program does not lead to licensure.

Dr. Rachel Sing-Kiat Ting, MAMHM program chair, said, “The MAMHM is for mature Christians who are willing to reach out to those who are suffering—while expecting nothing in return. The program is about sharing an incarnate love, with a Christlike mindset and with professional knowledge, grounded in the integration of psychology and theology.”

Applications are now open for Fuller’s new MAMHM, and classes begin in Fall 2026. Learn more on the MAMHM program page.
