In my spare time, I love to go on weekend explorations to the Huntington Gardens (Pasadena, CA) with my wife and daughter. I also enjoy reading books and literary magazines.

It would be uncouth to respond "eat" for both items, but ... I’m a vegetarian foodie and a traveler who enjoys traveling to different places around the world…to eat. Ha!

In my spare time I enjoy travel—especially to Great Britain, where I enjoy exploring new places while ending with time in London, and the British Museum (my favorite destination of all). When I’m not overseas, I enjoy hiking in the mountains, especially Rocky Mountain National Park.

Two things I love to do in my spare time are: 1) travel to places I've never been before and learn, appreciate, and enjoy as much of the history, culture, and good food from whenever I am visiting as I can, and 2) play and solve word puzzles, especially any of the daily word games offered by the New York Times and Will Shortz's weekly puzzle on NPR.

One of my favorite activities in my spare time is watching TV shows and/or movies; I absolutely love the art of screenwriting. Also, as a major foodie, I always enjoy exploring and trying a new restaurant or cafe so I can add it to my long list of places to eat.

I co-designed and co-led a Christmas worship night for Fuller students living on the Pasadena campus. It was a fun, joy-filled service of praise and worship that brought the community together.

When visiting Pasadena, I was hosted by a Fuller staff member for whom, as a sign of reciprocity, I did pet sitting for her golden retriever while she left to do the same for her friend’s dogs. The thing is, my family doesn't keep pets in-house back in Kenya and this was my first time. But this act alone changed me… I can’t wait to visit again.

A classic memory that I have never shared was my first year when I sat in the wrong class. I didn’t notice until I saw the syllabus.

My fun memory is from my final year at Fuller. A group of close, mostly Presbyterian friends, got up early in the morning to watch the third "Star Wars" film, which we subsequently learned was “Episode 6: The Return of the Jedi." Appropriate to the plot of the film, we entered Mann’s Chinese Theatre before dawn late in May, 1983. When we came out at the conclusion of the film, the sun was brightly shining.

My favorite Fuller memories are of relationships and community---I am still in touch with FTS classmates from 49 years ago---and the spiritual and theological formation that took place through the FTS experience. I learned a way to be faithful to the gospel, follow Jesus in committed discipleship, and engage the world in an open posture. I am so grateful for this formation!

Two fun core memories of Fuller from when I was a student are 1) emceeing and performing in the Fuller Follies, the annual student-led and produced variety show held on campus that sardonically but lovingly poked fun at Fuller as an institution and its current faculty, and 2) enjoying quality time and deep conversations with professors outside of class over a coffee in the Quad or an adult beverage during Happy Hour at a local restaurant near the Fuller campus.

One of my fun memories of Fuller is when the Catalyst had a cafe and served sandwiches with theologian names. I would get the Rudolf Bultmunn every time and if I can remember correctly, it was a turkey (or was it ham?), swiss cheese, sprouts and a cucumber on pumpernickel bread.
