About Louis Kunāne

I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. As a Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian), I am passionate about my culture, my Christian faith, and how to holistically live my faith as a Kānaka ʻŌiwi. I am currently a first-year PhD Student in Intercultural Studies. I received a B.A. in Bible and Pastoral Ministry at Pacific Rim Christian University in 2014. I eventually received an MA in Theological Studies at Multnomah Biblical Seminary in 2024. My master’s thesis, A Native Hawaiian Theological Reflection of Pono, wrestled with what Christian theology could look like within a Native Hawaiian framework. My current research focuses on an evangelical engagement with the land in response to the commodification, exploitation, and desecration of the land. I am also focusing on Native Hawaiian Christian responses to issues concerning land, especially when it comes to natural resources and Native Hawaiian sacred places. I currently live in Morongo Valley, California with my wife and daughter.
